Support for small businesses over Christmas

The following is a local letter to the local media 13 December 2013

Your readers may recall recently the Government’s Small Business Saturday which underlined how important it is for small and medium-sized enterprises are to the continued recovery of  the economy. After all if Europe’s fortunes are to be revived, it is small businesses that  will do the heavy lifting.

I am encouraged that this government’s policies are now showing some real positive results.

The recent Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking regional purchasing managers index has shown that

Southeast England overtook London as the region with the fastest growing private sector.

In fact all 12 regions in the UK saw their economies grow, this is down to a renewed level of confidence in the economy inspired by sound and effective policies of this government.

Over Christmas and the new year I would like to encourage people to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities.

Please send me your views on the Southeast economy, and any ideas you may have to see sustained economic growth by emailing me at Richard.Ashworth@europarl.europa.eu.
