Richard Ashworth Conservative MEP for South East England and the former leader of the UK Conservatives in the European Parliament has welcomed the appointment of Lord Hill to the post EU Commissioner in charge of financial services to include banking.
“I welcome the appointment of Lord Hill to a vitally important post inside the European Commission, at this vitally important time for the United Kingdom and the European Union. I am looking forward to working with Lord Hill in the future and wish him luck in his job as EU Commissioner for Financial Services.”
Lord Hill of Oareford, has been confirmed as the United Kingdom’s next European Commissioner overseeing a major shake-up with plans to liberalise the EU’s capital markets and will be able to work safeguard the City of London from heavy handed Brussels regulation.

Lord Hill’s post, entitled “financial stability, financial services and capital markets union” commissioner, will be a significant economic post following tough talks with Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
