Ashworth calls on supporters of the UK to REMAIN in the EU to vote Change UK on Thursday

Date:  Wednesday 22 May 2019

Richard Ashworth the Change UK The Independent Group European Parliamentary candidate for South East England has called on the people who support the UK remaining in the EU to vote “Change UK” on Thursday.

“Let’s be clear there is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK.  In all cases not only would the country be worse off, but we as individuals will be worse off too.   That’s not just my opinion all economic forecasts CBI, IMF and even the governments own impact assessment gave that warning.”

“We now know that delivering the Brexit the people were promised would do untold damage to this country. That’s because it was based on lies and unrealistic fantasy.”

“On Thursday 23 May the people of the South East of England must send a strong message to the current government and the rest of the world that the UK wants to remain in the European Union.  The best way to do this is to vote Change UK and support all the parties advocating the UK remains in the EU.”

Ashworth “Populism is a cancer on society.  Populism always talks of problems; never solutions.”

Richard Ashworth Change UK The Independent Group European Parliamentary candidate for South East England in a speech made in Brighton on Sunday 19 May warned “populism is a cancer on society”.

“On question of broken politics.  Democracy means governance for all the people not just the few.  I am saddened that the majority in the House  Of  Common’s  seem prepared to put self interest before country,  and I am shocked how few of them appear to have the courage to say or do the right thing by their country.”

“Similarly, democracy can’t work without integrity, honesty and the truth.  And I find it deeply worrying that this country seems so ready to accept the lies, the cheating and the deceit.   We  have more to do before people really realise what we are saying.”

“My greatest concern;   this is, and always was, about more than just Brexit. It’s the rise and rise of ugly populism.

Populism is a cancer on society.  Populism always talks of problems; never solutions.   Populism appeals for patriotism…. and then shamelessly crosses the line into nationalism. Patriotism is good….nationalism is dangerous. It lifts the lid off so many dark forces in society.

And, to populists, it’s always someone else’s fault.  Pick on minority groups, pick on migrants, pick on any sector who can’t answer back.”

“None of this is new. Europe saw it all before in the 1930’s. and it doesn’t end well.”

“In Britain today, it is as if voters and media have become seduced and intoxicated by cheap wine and there is no sign that the British people realise the danger they face.”

“So this is about much more than this election, it’s  a fight for the soul of the country.  A  country that is fast heading in the wrong direction and the Conservative and Labour parties have thrown in the towel.”

“Change UK shines out a bright light of hope in a very dark time. I salute the wisdom of those 11 MPs who set up Change UK.  Standing on values and principles is a thankless lonely task.

The courage they have shown has been truly inspirational. They deserve all the support we can give.”

Richard Ashworth Change UK candidate for the European Parliament in South East England

“Lying to or misleading the public is not acceptable. So I refused, and that led to my expulsion from the party.  But, it also convinced me that politics is broken.”

Richard Ashworth Change UK The Independent Group candidate for the European Parliamentary elections in a speech to be delivered in Oxford will say that “politics is broken”.

“As an MEP my priorities are; my country, my children’s future and passionate about remaining in the EU.  That is why I want a Peoples Vote and that’s why I joined Change UK.

Formerly a Conservative, I left the party on a matter of principle; I had been told to vote in a manner that was not telling the public the truth.”

“Lying to or misleading the public is not acceptable. So I refused, and that led to my expulsion from the party.  But, it also convinced me that politics is broken.  It is with great sadness that; I see the Conservatives have deserted the centre ground, chasing after populism, they changed the nature and values of the party leaving their moderate supporters feeling shut out.”

“The Labour party have done exactly the same thing both of them; giving the wrong answer to the right question.  I see politicians putting self interests above national interest.”

“The few responsible for breaking bond of public trust in the many and I see democracy being abused.  Democracy means governance in the interests of all the people, not the few and history has taught us that democracy cannot possibly work if you don’t also have honesty, integrity and accountability.”

Change UK is passionate about remaining. That’s why we support a peoples vote

News Release:

Date:  Saturday 11 May 201  Immediate Release

Three years ago, no one told the people what they were voting for,

partly  because the leavers couldn’t agree among themselves what Brexit meant, and partly because there was never a manifesto.

Ever since that time,  all the people have had  are empty promises.

The leavers promised   … there was “no downside to Brexit”  “easiest trade deal in  history”….”all the cards in our hands”,  and  a Brexit dividend of  £350 million a week for the NHS.

And the Prime minister promised; “frictionless, borderless, continuity of trade with the European Single market”.   Even though her red lines said  “no customs union” .

True;  She did have an election manifesto, & true no customs union  was a red line but,  she didn’t win that election….and  with no majority, she can’t assume she has  “the will of the people”.  Nor can she claim “the will of the people” is so specific they have to accept her withdrawal agreement”,   but  at the same time so broad that she has a mandate to leave with no deal.

Either way,  there is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK.  In all cases not only would the country be worse off, but we as individuals will be worse off too.   That’s not just my opinion…all economic forecasts … CBI, IMF  and even the governments own impact assessment gave that warning.

Completely wrong that the government tried to hide their impact assessment,

the people have a right to be told when national interests are under threat, even if that means putting national interest above party interest.

It is perfectly obvious the government cannot deliver the promises it made.

it clear that the government has lost the trust of the people;

and it’s clear the nation is divided like never before.

This then has put this country in the greatest crisis since the war

and the only way out of this mess is to put it back to the people.

We in Change UK  will fight to remain in the EU  That’s why Change UK demands a public vote.

Ashworth supports People’s Vote “only way forward”

News Release:

Date Friday 10 May 2019

Immediate Release

Richard Ashworth candidate for Change UK The Independent Group in the European Parliamentary elections in the South East of England has underlined his support for a second vote supporting the “People’s Vote”.

“It was never made clear what the people were voting for.  The Referendum promises were all based on emotion and ideology but never facts, and there was never a manifesto.

There wasn’t even agreement among leave supporters about what leave meant.”

“But; that didn’t matter we were told, because there was no downside to Brexit.  We were promised this would be the “easiest trade deal in history”  because “all the cards in our hands, Britain would prosper in the sunlight uplands, and, as a Brexit dividend, the NHS would get an extra  £350 million a week.”

“How can the will of the people suddenly become so specific that on one hand leave means it is essential to support the  exact detail of the withdrawal agreement,   and yet, on the other hand, so broad that it is a mandate for  departure with no deal at all.  You can’t use it to justify any and every scenario that you choose.”

Ashworth becomes Change UK candidate for South East Euro elections

CHANGE UK is the new political party launched by eleven former Conservative and Labour MPs including Chuka Umunna, Heidi Allen, Anna Soubry, Sarah Wollaston and Mike Gapes.

They have all been horrified about the damage and chaos of the last three years of Brexit negotiations. They have been patient, given three years to see if Brexit could be resolved, and then finally had enough. Politics is broken they said. We need change.

Fiercely patriotic, Change UK wants to rebuild Great Britain. Their first priority is to win seats at the European Parliament. They want to send a clear message that Britain wants to Remain in the EU.

Change UK believes Great Britain is strongest as a leader of the free world. Sitting at the top table of the European Union as well as enjoying strong vibrant relationships with our international allies in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and also our allies in the Commonwealth, China, Japan and beyond.

Change UK is contesting the EU Elections on May 23rd and have put forward 70 candidates, including 10 in the South East Region. Their priority is to get people to vote and vote to Remain in the EU.

Richard Ashworth was LEADER of the CONSERVATIVE PARTY in the EU. Having watched both major parties abandon pragmatic centre ground politics in favour of ideological intolerance, he left the Conservative party in 2017. He is delighted to join the Independent Group, and is dedicated to supporting Change UK and a People’s Vote.

Richard trained in agriculture and land management and spent over thirty years in the food and farming industry. During that period he became convinced that education was the key to unlocking the potential of this country. That bought him into the world of politics. First elected to the European Parliament in 2004, he has been a member of the budget committee for fifteen years and was rapporteur for the 2018 European budget.

Richard has spent 15 years working on EU relations and is certain that every alternative arrangement that has been proposed would leave us, and our country, significantly worse off than we are now.
