Ashworth calls on supporters of the UK to REMAIN in the EU to vote Change UK on Thursday

Date:  Wednesday 22 May 2019

Richard Ashworth the Change UK The Independent Group European Parliamentary candidate for South East England has called on the people who support the UK remaining in the EU to vote “Change UK” on Thursday.

“Let’s be clear there is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK.  In all cases not only would the country be worse off, but we as individuals will be worse off too.   That’s not just my opinion all economic forecasts CBI, IMF and even the governments own impact assessment gave that warning.”

“We now know that delivering the Brexit the people were promised would do untold damage to this country. That’s because it was based on lies and unrealistic fantasy.”

“On Thursday 23 May the people of the South East of England must send a strong message to the current government and the rest of the world that the UK wants to remain in the European Union.  The best way to do this is to vote Change UK and support all the parties advocating the UK remains in the EU.”

Ashworth “Populism is a cancer on society.  Populism always talks of problems; never solutions.”

Richard Ashworth Change UK The Independent Group European Parliamentary candidate for South East England in a speech made in Brighton on Sunday 19 May warned “populism is a cancer on society”.

“On question of broken politics.  Democracy means governance for all the people not just the few.  I am saddened that the majority in the House  Of  Common’s  seem prepared to put self interest before country,  and I am shocked how few of them appear to have the courage to say or do the right thing by their country.”

“Similarly, democracy can’t work without integrity, honesty and the truth.  And I find it deeply worrying that this country seems so ready to accept the lies, the cheating and the deceit.   We  have more to do before people really realise what we are saying.”

“My greatest concern;   this is, and always was, about more than just Brexit. It’s the rise and rise of ugly populism.

Populism is a cancer on society.  Populism always talks of problems; never solutions.   Populism appeals for patriotism…. and then shamelessly crosses the line into nationalism. Patriotism is good….nationalism is dangerous. It lifts the lid off so many dark forces in society.

And, to populists, it’s always someone else’s fault.  Pick on minority groups, pick on migrants, pick on any sector who can’t answer back.”

“None of this is new. Europe saw it all before in the 1930’s. and it doesn’t end well.”

“In Britain today, it is as if voters and media have become seduced and intoxicated by cheap wine and there is no sign that the British people realise the danger they face.”

“So this is about much more than this election, it’s  a fight for the soul of the country.  A  country that is fast heading in the wrong direction and the Conservative and Labour parties have thrown in the towel.”

“Change UK shines out a bright light of hope in a very dark time. I salute the wisdom of those 11 MPs who set up Change UK.  Standing on values and principles is a thankless lonely task.

The courage they have shown has been truly inspirational. They deserve all the support we can give.”

Ashworth tells Oxford voters “politics is broken”

News Release:

Date Friday 17 May 2019

Immediate Release

Richard Ashworth Change UK candidate for the European Parliament in South East England

“Lying to or misleading the public is not acceptable. So I refused, and that led to my expulsion from the party.  But, it also convinced me that politics is broken.”

Richard Ashworth Change UK The Independent Group candidate for the European Parliamentary elections in a speech to be delivered in Oxford will say that “politics is broken”.

“As an MEP my priorities are; my country, my children’s future and passionate about remaining in the EU.  That is why I want a Peoples Vote and that’s why I joined Change UK.

Formerly a Conservative, I left the party on a matter of principle; I had been told to vote in a manner that was not telling the public the truth.”

“Lying to or misleading the public is not acceptable. So I refused, and that led to my expulsion from the party.  But, it also convinced me that politics is broken.  It is with great sadness that; I see the Conservatives have deserted the centre ground, chasing after populism, they changed the nature and values of the party leaving their moderate supporters feeling shut out.”

“The Labour party have done exactly the same thing both of them; giving the wrong answer to the right question.  I see politicians putting self interests above national interest.”

“The few responsible for breaking bond of public trust in the many and I see democracy being abused.  Democracy means governance in the interests of all the people, not the few and history has taught us that democracy cannot possibly work if you don’t also have honesty, integrity and accountability.”

“There is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK”

Richard Ashworth Change UK candidate for the South East of England in the European Parliamentary elections on 23 May has warned voters that there “is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK”.

In a speech made in Canterbury in Kent Richard Ashworth said:

“Three years ago, no one told the people what they were voting for, partly because the leavers couldn’t agree among themselves what Brexit meant, and partly because there was never a manifesto.”

“Ever since that time, all the people have had are empty promises. The leavers promised   … there was “no downside to Brexit”  “easiest trade deal in history”….”all the cards in our hands”,  and  a Brexit dividend of  £350 million a week for the NHS.”

“And the Prime minister promised; “frictionless, borderless, continuity of trade with the European Single market”.   Even though her red lines said ‘no customs union’ .”

“Either way,  there is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK.  In all cases not only would the country be worse off, but we as individuals will be worse off too.   That’s not just my opinion…all economic forecasts … CBI, IMF  and even the governments own impact assessment gave that warning.”

“It is perfectly obvious the government cannot deliver the promises it made.  It’s clear that the government has lost the trust of the people; and it’s clear the nation is divided like never before.”

“We in Change UK  will fight to remain in the EU  That’s why Change UK demands a public vote.”

Change UK is passionate about remaining. That’s why we support a peoples vote

News Release:

Date:  Saturday 11 May 201  Immediate Release

Three years ago, no one told the people what they were voting for,

partly  because the leavers couldn’t agree among themselves what Brexit meant, and partly because there was never a manifesto.

Ever since that time,  all the people have had  are empty promises.

The leavers promised   … there was “no downside to Brexit”  “easiest trade deal in  history”….”all the cards in our hands”,  and  a Brexit dividend of  £350 million a week for the NHS.

And the Prime minister promised; “frictionless, borderless, continuity of trade with the European Single market”.   Even though her red lines said  “no customs union” .

True;  She did have an election manifesto, & true no customs union  was a red line but,  she didn’t win that election….and  with no majority, she can’t assume she has  “the will of the people”.  Nor can she claim “the will of the people” is so specific they have to accept her withdrawal agreement”,   but  at the same time so broad that she has a mandate to leave with no deal.

Either way,  there is no Brexit scenario that benefits the UK.  In all cases not only would the country be worse off, but we as individuals will be worse off too.   That’s not just my opinion…all economic forecasts … CBI, IMF  and even the governments own impact assessment gave that warning.

Completely wrong that the government tried to hide their impact assessment,

the people have a right to be told when national interests are under threat, even if that means putting national interest above party interest.

It is perfectly obvious the government cannot deliver the promises it made.

it clear that the government has lost the trust of the people;

and it’s clear the nation is divided like never before.

This then has put this country in the greatest crisis since the war

and the only way out of this mess is to put it back to the people.

We in Change UK  will fight to remain in the EU  That’s why Change UK demands a public vote.

“Brexit cannot be delivered as promised”

News Release:

Date Tuesday 7 May 2019

Immediate Release

Richard Ashworth the Change UK The Independent Group candidate in the South East of England addressing an election meeting in Reading on Tuesday 7 May said:

“The people have realised that the promised Brexit can’t be delivered, either because of unrealistic expectations… or deliberate lies and deception.”

“That’s not what people were promised, and it’s not what they voted for, It’s clear the majority don’t want Brexit that damages them and their country, and that’s mirrored by the House of Commons, which is deadlocked.”

“That’s why I say enough is enough…. we can’t go on like this.  That’s why I support Change UK.”

“A middle ground party formed by break away MPs from both parties.

we are moderate, pragmatic politics,  we are passionate about remaining in the EU and we are calling for a peoples vote.”

“We are there for 1.5 million Brits abroad, and 3 million Europeans living here . They don’t deserve the uncertainty.”

“We are there for young people….  the group of people who never got a say in their own future.”

“And we will be there for the people who were persuaded that Brexit was an opportunity to register a protest. About austerity, about inequality, or anything else…they were told it didn’t matter, because there were no downsides to Brexit.”

“These are the people who can least afford to be financially worse off, and yet these are the people who will be hurt most.”

“We are there for the people who want to stand up to populism.   And we are there for all those people who feel let down and abandoned by the two main parties.”

Much more could be done and should be done to stop flow of illegal immigrants into France and the UK

The Mayor of Calais Natacha Bouchart has issued a warning in Paris at a meeting with the French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve that “I could take the decision to block the port (Calais). I could bring pressure to bear.”

She said that the migrants were costing too much and making life unpleasant.

Richard Ashworth Conservative MEP for Dover said:

“If Calais was a UK town we would be indignant at the situation, but blocking the port and the Channel crossing I don’t believe is the right way to find a solution to the problem.”

“There is much much more that could be, and should be done to stop that flow of illegal migrants.”

“Ultimately the solution is in the source countries where the migrants are coming from, and these governments must fulfil their international responsibilities to prevent this illegal trafficking.  Frontex the European Agency established to combat illegal immigration into the EU must do more.  The EU governments must do more to catch the criminal gangs who are exploiting and making money out of these people.”

“We need to do far more to intercept vehicles and freight coming into this country.  We are after all an island, and we need to bolster security in Dover.  We need to invest much more into the UK Border Agency, I give credit to the haulage and freight companies in the UK for investing in new technology, but we need to adopt new technology at ports to intercept illegal immigrants.”

European Commission bans asulam

An appeal for the continued use of the herbicide asulam, the only marketed herbicide that can control the spread of bracken, was thrown out by an appeals committee in Brussels today. Sale and supply of asulam will end on the 31st December 2011 and stocks of the herbicide must be consumed by the 31st December 2012. Without the ability to control bracken, many farmers will be unable to use their land effectively. Richard Ashworth MEP, the Conservative agriculture spokesman in the European Parliament, said in response to the news: “Banning the use of asulam on bracken makes no sense whatsoever. “Simply banning the product in all areas of use, simply because the European Commission decreed it wasn’t to be used on foodstuffs such as spinach, shows a complete lack of foresight and I will now be supporting emergency contingencies for it’s continued use. “There are no practical alternatives to asulam for controlling bracken so we could well see large portions of our countryside rendered useless at great cost to our farmers.”
